Phillip Barker is a Canadian film director, production designer, installation artist and screenwriter. He received a Directors Guild of Canada Award for Outstanding Achievement in Production Design for Atom Egoyans Where the Truth Lies. He has been the production designer for films by directors such as Brian De Palma, Mira Nair, Atom Egoyan, Lisa Cholodenko and Neil LaBute.His film-based installations have toured internationally and include commissions by ARCO International Art Fair in Madrid, The City of Amsterdam Arts Foundation, and Expo ‘92 in Sevilla, Spain. His own films have been widely shown internationally and have won numerous awards. His film Soul Cages won Best Canadian Short Film at The Atlantic Film Festival, Best Short Film at Local Heroes Film Festival, Best Cinematography in a Short Film from The Canadian Society of Cinematographers and received a Genie Award nomination for Best Live Action Short Film. Phillips short film A Temporary Arrangement won Best Experimental Film Award at both the Melbourne International Film Festival and the Toronto Worldwide Short Film Festival.Cinematheque Ontario presented a retrospective of the films and installations of Phillip Barker at the Art Gallery of Ontario.
